the list

one of my dear friends from work (unknowingly) started a list of things about motherhood that she says she can't wait for me to experience. she has 3 young boys, and she found rocks in her dryer. she sighed and thought of me... hoping someday that i have rocks in my dryer too.

so i've added to the list myself. i spend a lot of time with mothers who have children of various ages, who fluster them at various levels. and i simply tell them that i can't wait for my turn. these are all actual events, most of which i witnessed myself.

the elementary years:
rocks in the dryer
total rejection of dinner (applicable at all ages)
book report on the wrong state

the high school years:
back talk and sarcasm
unexpected phone calls from the high school - "your child has an inexcused absense today"
walking around the house without pants, while company is over

infant toddler years:
2 broken arms in 2 years.
the aftermath on your body of being pregnant and/or breastfeeding 3 children over 7 years straight.
crying over spilled milk.. chocolate, that is. a full cup. splattered on the wall in the next room. cleaned up by paper towels, a swiffer, and the dog.
refusal to sit in a high chair, thus resulting in falling and hitting your head/face..THREE times during one meal.
poop leaking onto the outfit.. in public.. with no clean outfit to spare.

i can't wait. absolutely can't wait.

feel free to add your own.
