good news

this is great... i just wrote about this here

The campaign to gain recognition for our stillborn children has just taken a giant step forward.

Parents everywhere have been working on legislation in their states to require officials to issue Certificates of Birth for stillborn babies. To date about half the states have enacted the legislation. Some states have even enacted tax credits for the parents of a stillborn baby. But these gains pale next to what has just been announced.

SERVICEMENS' GROUP LIFE INSURANCE HAS EXTENDED DEATH BENEFITS TO INCLUDE STILLBORN BABIES AND WILL PAY POLICYHOLDERS WHO SUFFER A STILLBIRTH $10,000.

No amount of money can replace our child and no amount can bring us solace. But at least now parents of stillborn babies will have help coping with the financial cost of stillbirth. More important, the act recognizes that far from being "invisible" our babies are begining to matter not just to us but to others who recognize that they were life in the offing.

Another example of changing attitudes happened earlier this year when The National Stillbirth Society intervened in the case of a mother who was paid six weeks maternity benefits by her employer. When her baby was stillborn the company demanded their money back! Needless to say they not only dropped their demand but apologized to the mother when they were helped to understand mothers of stillborn babies can require even more time and support to recover than mothers of live babies.
