Kathlyn's BFF

For 2 years, a very good friend of mine lived with my husband and me in the apartment upstairs. She moved out last year after she got married and it turned out we were pregnant together... both having girls. We were so excited.

Well. You all know how that ended.

Her baby Lorelei was born 3 months after Kathlyn. She lives pretty far away now, so between the holidays and my grief, it has taken almost another 3 months to arrange a visit. She came over tonight with her mom and the baby to have dinner with my mom and me. It was such a lovely visit. Lorelei was wearing Kathlyn's heart sleeper, hat, and bib. I had made 2 teddy bears, one for each baby girl. Mine is named Kathlyn Angel, and has an "angel" shirt on, and the other is named Lorelei Lambie and has a Lamb on the shirt :) And they have best friend necklaces on, made just for teddy bears, so sweet! There are also "best friend" flower frames with each other's pictures in them.

Melody had the same idea.. she gave me a pink teddy bear dressed in an actual onesie, and Lorelei has the same onesie for herself.

Such a lovely evening. I am heartbroken for what might have been... we were pregnant together and obviously wanted to raise our babies together, but Kathlyn was pretty much the center of every conversation, and Lorelei was wearing her clothes, sitting in her bouncy seat, watching her Baby Mozart video, spending time in her room, laying with her blanket, and spitting up on her burp cloth.. totally decked out in everything Kathlyn. It is so nice to be surrounded by people who will honor my baby with me. Melody also made a pink cake that said "sweet Kathlyn" and my mom made pink rice krispie treats.

I had set out the bouncy seat before they arrived. I caught myself walking past it in the living room and saying "oh, so THAT's what it feels like to have baby furniture in my living room."

The little Lambie blanket stays on my bed and is embroidered with "Miss You Kathlyn." Looks like Lorelei really does miss her :,)

  1. Beth you are amazing. I find it so very very hard to be near a baby Akul's age. I wish I could be more like you. Many hugsssss. I wish it was kathlyn using all Kathlyn's stuff - I really do.

  2. I agree with Akul's mama, I find it HARD to be around other babies Jenna's would-be age. You are amazing for being such a friend. It sounds like Melody is a great friend too. And the cake is such a special treat! So sweet of her!

I can only imagine how it hurt your heart to pull out the baby furniture for another baby and do all the things you did, but maybe just maybe there was some healing mixed in there too :)

  3. You are so strong and a way better person than I could ever be! I still cant hear or look at babies, let alone welcome one into my house and let them use Nolan;s stuff.
Way to go! I hope I can be that strong one day.
