we're fireproof!

this weekend, my husband and i are on a marriage retreat with the church.. something we've been planning for probably at least 4-6 months, even though it's not something we "need". (because we're happy!) but, we haven't always been that way. this weekend, the group has talked about a lot of ways to help save your marriage if it's in danger, and it's something we certainly needed in our earlier, less healthy years as a couple. but that doesn't mean we haven't benefitted from this weekend, not only from the discussions, but from our time alone as a couple, away from the house, and time with some other couples here from our church. i am reminded of two quotes.. one from the bible (can't remember the verse, frustrating), and one from the movie fireproof. as pastor jimmy would say, "im gonna give them to you for free!" :)

"just because you make your marriage fireproof, doesn't mean the fire won't come. it just means you'll be ready for it when it does." many fires have come and threatened john and me. but we are strong.. and stronger since because of them. we've been through the best and worst together, and we're in a lasting and loving relationship because of those experiences.

from the bible.. and i'll figure out the verse exactly, but it's about "a cord of three strands" meaning in marriage, you need yourself, your spouse, AND GOD, in order to be healthy and strong. three strands in a rope/braid are solid, as oppsosed to only two, which fall apart easily.

a bonus, also free :) this one's from jimmy himself (adopted from the bible (Luke, if i'm remembering correclty without my notes)). always put the needs of your spouse before your own.

  1. the verse about a cord of three strands is in Ecclesiastes. It's chapter 4, verse 12.
